We are able to undertake full rooting surveys using our Airspade, a lance that uses a jet of air running at approximately 1,400 mph to remove soil without damaging roots. This has been used very effectively on projects to reveal areas that featured an unexpectedly dense root mat, and other areas where rooting has been almost completely absent. This provides valuable information for engineers and designers when establishing appropriate root protection measures and distances for siting specific structures from retained trees.
