Be it large or small, domestic or commercial, any new development or property extension near trees within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) will almost certainly require a BS5837 arboricultural report before the local planning authority will validate your planning application.
British Standard 5837:2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations provides a clear framework for the evaluation of trees on a development site, as well as methodologies for determining their root protection areas (the minimum area around a tree deemed to contain sufficient roots and rooting volume to maintain the tree’s viability) and recommendations for construction and tree protection for the duration of a project.
With over one thousand projects already successfully completed, Advanced Arboriculture’s consultants are specialists in trees on new development sites and can assist in all stages of the BS5837 process including:
- Tree survey
- Data evaluation
- Tree Constraints Plan (TCP)
- Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA – known as the Arboricultural Implications Assessment in the now superceded British Standard 5837:2005)
- Tree works specification
- Tree Protection Plan (TPP)
- Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS)
- Site supervision and planning condition discharge
Full details of these services can be found on our dedicated BS5837 page. All our drawings are produced in-house using licensed genuine AutoCAD products and all reports are produced as PDF documents for ease of distribution and to allow direct submission to the Planning Portal.

‘We have worked with Graham, Tom and team on many occasions for both British Standard Tree Reports and arboricultural work. I cannot commend them highly enough for being practical, pragmatic, understanding clients needs and just getting on with the job. A pleasure to deal with, consultants who have common sense and are a pleasure to work with.‘
